| Atlanta is the Capitol of the State of Georgia nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the county seat of Fulton County and straddles DeKalb County. It was so named since it was

During the Civil War after a month long siege, Atlanta was burned to the ground with only 400 structures left standing after General Sherman's campaign.
